The Electronic Privacy Information Center(EPIC) complained to federal regulators on Tuesday about Google’s new Buzz social networking service, saying it violates federal consumer protection law.
The EPIC filed its complaint with the Federal Trade Comission just days after Google Inc. updated their security problems in Google Buzz.
As we already mentioned that Google automatically creating public profiles and showing your secured data to the public.Few days back, Google altered the service and they make autofollow to selected follow.
The EPIC files the case because of the following reasons,
As Google Buzz integrated with Gmail, it is still unsecure because there is no separate sign-up process for Google Buzz.EPIC wants the FTC to require Google to make Buzz a “fully opt-in” service. It also wants the company barred from using Gmail address book contacts to compile social networking lists.
“This is a significant breach of consumers’ expectations of privacy,” EPIC Executive Director Marc Rotenberg said in a statement. “Google should not be allowed to push users’ personal information into a social network they never requested.”
Google insists that, they are providing security to users, because even Buzz is included in Gmail, the user first need to active his service before he wants to use.And we also providing an option to disable Buzz.
“We look forward to hearing more suggestions and will continue to improve the Buzz experience with user transparency and control top of mind,” the company said.
