Actually Toronto-based company i4i Inc won a patent of reading the documents with XML.But the microsoft word has a capability to read those XML files against the patent policies.
Now microsoft is facing problems.Now it cannot sell the Microsoft Word which have the capability of opening .XML, or .DOCX or .DOCM files containing custom XML.Court forced Microsoft to pay over $290 million to i4i Inc. !!
