Actually Development of Avatar began in 1994.But because of lack of technology it was delayed.But later again it started in Summer 2005.Avatar was officially budgeted at $237 million.The movie released Internationally on Dec 16, 2009.After the great success of Avatar, James Cameron is planning to make Avatar sequel name Avatar 2.
